UN chief appoints new head for Nairobi office
UN Secretary-general Antonio Guterres on Friday annoUNced the appointment of Workneh Gebeyehu, Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, as Director-general of the UN Office at Nairobi (UNON).
Gebeyehu succeeds Hanna Tetteh of Ghana, who was appointed as Special Representative to the African UNion and Head of the UNited Nations Office to the African UNion (UNOAU), according to a statement by the spokesperson of Guterres.
Currently Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia and member of the Addis Ababa City CoUNcil, Gebeyehu previously served as Minister of Transport of Ethiopia and member of the Ethiopian House of Peoples' Representatives.
Established by the general Assembly in 1996, UNON is the UN headquarters in Africa.
