One inmate dead, 7 injured in Greek prison brawl
ATHENS, March 7 (Xinhua) -- An inmate was stabbed to death and another seven were injured on Thursday during a brawl inside Korydallos Prison, the main Prison of Greece, located in Korydallos, Piraeus, Greek national news agency AMNA reported.
According to initial information, Russian-speaking Prisoners clashed with Albanian nationals for still unclear causes.
A total of 18 Prisoners have died at Korydallos in the past six months, due to violent incidents, drugs use and other causes, local daily "Vima" (Tribune) noted.
Prison guards speak of serious shortages of personnel due to austerity measures and request immediate hirings to improve the operation of Korydallos which currently has more than 1,500 inmates, according to the local daily.
