Myanmar VP calls for gender equality in economic undertakings
NAY PYI TAW, March 8 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar Vice President U Henry Van Thio on Friday called for exploring new channels in ensuring gender equality in Economic undertakings.
At a ceremony marking International Women's Day in the capital of Nay Pyi Taw, U Henry Van Thio urged for promoting women's capability in the Economic sector and exploring new ways to overcome difficulties in the efforts.
While the government is making efforts all-sidedly to promote women's role and striving for women to obtain equal opportunities with men, the vice president called for continued collaboration with the United Nations organizations, international non-governmental organizations and experts.
He also stressed the use of capacities of the mass of women, who represents over half of the population of the country, in building a democratic federal union, while promoting the development of women's role by exploring new innovations and ways.
A forum, attached with the ceremony, discussed laws in favor of women, emergence of good environment to promote women's role, social protection for women, demands for women's rights at the basic level.
