APD | India: Man crushed by elephant

NEW DELHI, March 7 (APD) - An elephant accidentally crushed his carer to death in the city of Karappuzha in Kottayam district in the province of Kerala on Tuesday.

The ordeal was recorded through CCTV camera and is currently being circulated on social media. Arun Panikkar, the carer of the elephant was 40 years old.

The footage shows the elephant crushing the carer, which happened when Panikkar whipped the elephant and lost his balance landing beneath the elephant.

The carer had struck the elephant to make it sit, however he accidently slipped on the wet ground and fell between the floor and the elephant, as it was about to sit.

The elephant, which was owned by a hospital trust accidently sat on the carer’s head, as the footage shows. Currently, an investigation is being carried out about the episode.
