Sudanese president appoints new central bank governor
KHARTOUM, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir appointed a new governor of the protest-struck country's central bank, the presidency's media office said on Wednesday.
"Al-Bashir issued a presidential decree, appointing Hussein Yahya Gangol as governor of the Central bank of Sudan," read a press release by the media office.
Gangol graduated from the College of Economics of Khartoum University in 1982 and obtained a master's degree in economics from Columbia University in New York in 2000.
Sudan has been gripped by economic deterioration with a growing rate of inflation, plummeted national currency value and a hike in the prices of basic commodities, fueling popular protests since Dec. 19 last year.
