TRIPOLI, March 7 (Xinhua) -- The World Health Organization (WHO) on Thursday revealed that it provided medical supplies to the southern Libya city of Sabha, as the eastern-based army continues its anti-terrorism military action in the region.

"In response to recent increasing violence in Sabha City, southern Libya, WHO has delivered trauma medicines to health facilities in Sabha, also provided mechanical ventilator to the neonatal ICU of Sabha medical center," WHO said.

WHO also said that the fighting in southern Libya had killed 44 people and injured 209 others. The organization said it provided assistance to 400 patients requiring trauma care in the region.

The army, led by General Khalifa Haftar, has been leading a military campaign against crime and terrorism in southern Libya since mid-January.

The army is allied with the eastern-based government, as Libya is politically divided between two governments in the east and the west, both competing for legitimacy.
