Libyan parliament stresses importance of constitution-based political solution
TRIPOLI, March 7 (Xinhua) -- First Deputy Speaker of the eastern-based House of Representatives (Parliament) Fawzi al-Nweri on Thursday stressed the need for a constitution-based solution to the Political crisis in the country.
Al-Nweri made his remarks during a meeting with Italian Ambassador to Libya Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi in the capital Tripoli.
According to a statement issued by the Parliament, the two officials discussed the latest Political developments in Libya and means to solve the Political crisis in the country.
The meeting also covered the recent UN-sponsored meeting in Abu Dhabi, UAE, between Prime Minister Fayez Serraj, and the Commander of the eastern-based army General Khalifa Haftar, during which they agreed on the need to end the transitional stages in Libya by holding general elections.
The meeting also discussed mutual economic relations and bilateral agreements between Libya and Italy, as well as the Italian role to support security and stability in Libya, the statement added.
Libya has been suffering Political division and insecurity ever since the fall of the late leader Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011.
The north African nation is struggling to make a democratic transition amid Political division between eastern and western governments.
