'Green Book' grosses more than 150 mln yuan at Chinese box office
"Green Book," a comedy-drama film that has just won three Oscars, raked in 151.8 million yuan (about 22.65 million U.S. dollars) at the Chinese mainland box office in just five days.
The film, which hit Chinese cinemas Friday, ranked the first on the single-day box office list Monday and Tuesday, according to the China Box Office, which tracks film screenings.
Set in the 1960s, "Green Book" is based on a true story about a tour of the racially divided South by African-American classical and jazz pianist Don Shirley and Tony Vallelonga, an Italian-American bouncer who served as Shirley's driver and bodyguard.
The film has had comments by more than 242,000 viewers on Chinese movie rating platform Douban, with a score of 8.9 out of 10 points.
