Gaza, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Dozens of Palestinian Women demonstrated in Gaza City on Wednesday, calling for efforts to end the Israeli occupation and the internal Palestinian division on the eve of the International Women's Day.

The Women gathered at the square of the Unknown Soldier in Gaza City upon the call of the General Union of Palestinian Women to prepare for the annual International Women's Day, which falls on March 8.

During the rally, they delivered speeches, presented shows of girl scouts and played traditional Palestinian songs, while waving Palestinian flags and carrying banners reading "My dignity is the dignity of my homeland Palestine" and "Together we will end the occupation and the internal division."

Huda Elieyan, a member of the general union, told Xinhua that the rally aims to let out "a scream from Gaza to the world to end the Israeli occupation" and "call on the Palestinian rivals to end the internal division and achieve reconciliation."

Meanwhile, the Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-detainees Affairs in Palestine Liberation Organization said in a press statement that Israel is still imprisoning 49 Palestinian Women.

"Among the detained Women, 20 are married and have children and six wounded, while some of the detained Women have been spending 16 years in jail," the statement said.

The commission also accused Israel of practising "the worst ever kind of physical and psychological torture against female prisoners."
