Indonesia targeting first place in 2020 ASEAN Para Games
JAKARTA, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has set a target of winning the forthcoming ASEAN Para Games to be held in the Philippines next year, with a total of around 100 gold medals expected to be secured.
Indonesia's Youth and Sport Minister Imam Nahrawi said that participation in the event for athletes with disabilities will be used as a stepping stone for continuing improvement of the country's athletes in high-level international sporting events, such as the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games.
"We are targeting to be champions in the ASEAN Para Games," Nahrawi said in a statement on Wednesday.
400 Indonesian athletes will take part in 14 out of 17 sports to be staged at the Games, which will take place from January 17 to 25, 2020.
