Bhutanese conjoined twins returns home after successful separation
SYDNEY, March 6 (Xinhua) -- Newly separated Bhutanese twins, Nima and Dawa, will depart Australia from Melbourne airport on Wednesday, almost four months after their life-changing seperation surgery in Australia.
It took a team of 25 nurses, surgeons and specialists to separate the girls who were born joined at the torso -- undergoing a lengthy surgery at Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital in November of last year.
Since then the girls have been recovering and getting used to their new solitary lives as guests of the Children First Foundation, the organization responsible for the girls surgery and travel.
The now 19-month-old toddlers will jet back to their home in the Himalayas having captured the hearts of Australians who watched as the girls arrived and held their breath throughout the risky surgery.
Accompanying the girls the whole trip was their mother, Bhumchu, who expressed her heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all those who helped in bringing the family to Australia and in separating the girls, forever changing their lives for the better.
