PARIS, March 5 (Xinhua) -- Two prison guards were wounded in a knife attack involving a radicalized detainee on Tuesday in Conde-sur-Sarthe in northwestern France, BFMTV news channel reported.

At around 09:45 local time, an inmate stabbed two jail officers when he was with his wife at the family unit where the prisoners could stay at least 48 hours with one of their family members.

He reportedly shouted "Allahu Akbar" when he attacked the two guards before he was hidden in the unit with his wife.

The attacker, who had been radicalized, seriously wounded one of the two guards in the belly and the head. Their situation was not critical, according to the report.

"We have a terrorist act that took place in prison," Yoann Karar, deputy secretary general of FO Penitentiary union told BFMTV.

In 2014, the attacker was jailed 30 years for public offences.

Paris prosecutor anti-terrorism office has opened a probe into the assault.
