APD | Sri Lanka allocates funds in 2019 Budget to strengthen reconciliation

COLOMBO, March 5 (APD) - The Sri Lankan Government, on Tuesday, announced the allocation of funds in the 2019 Budget to boost post war reconciliation in the country.

Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said that the allocation of funds will also assist families of the missing, including families of missing soldiers and Police.

He said that the Office on Missing Persons established to gather information on the war missing, will be adequately resourced to support families of the missing.

The Minister announced the allocation of funds for the secretariat for coordinating reconciliation mechanisms which operates under the Prime Minister’s office.

He said that funds will also be allocated for the Office for Reparations to be set up and operate.

The Minister also announced the establishment of a fund to fast track development in the minority Tamil dominated North and the East of the country.

He invited well-wishers, especially the Tamil diaspora to contribute to the fund.
