APD | President Duterte appoints new Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas governor

MANILA, March. 5 (APD) – Budget and Management Secretary Benjamin E. Diokno has been appointed to the position of Governor of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas according to an announcement made by the Office of the President late last night.
Secretary Diokno, now 70 years old, finished is Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration(1968) from the University of the Philippines and earned his Master’s Degree in Public Administration (1970) and Economics (1974) from the same university.
He has a master of Arts in Political Economic (1976) from the John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, USA and a Ph.D. in Economics (1981) from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse, New York, USA.
He served Budget and Management Secretary under the short-lived term of President Joseph Ejercito Estrada from June 30,1998 to January 20,2001 and under President Rodrigo Duterte from June 30,2016 to March 4,2019.
Governor Diokno succeeds Governor Nestor A. Espenilla, Jr. who succumbed to cancer last Saturday, February 23 at age 60.
